When my husband and I were planning a Christmas vacation, we wanted to see something that we had never seen before. And we decided on visiting the top few Christmas Markets in the World and you have no idea how excited I am to share my list. We had two weeks to explore different countries and Christmas markets and I am sharing my favorite Top 5 Christmas Markets which we saw on our trip.
Vienna, Austria
Magical fairy lights, steamy hot sausages, and mulled wines. As I had mentioned in my earlier blogs, I live for coffee and Vienna had been on my bucket list for all the wonderful cafes and patisseries. But many people don’t know that Vienna has some of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the entire world. There are several options to choose from but my favorite was Christkindlmarkt Rathausplatz. It also has a massive ice skating rink which makes it a fun activity to do with family and friends. The vibe and hot yummy punch at every Christmas market made my holiday even merrier. Another one that I really enjoyed was the Christmas Market and New Year’s Market at Schönbrunn Palace. You can not only also eat and drink yummy local cuisines. Viennese frankfurter (hot dogs) must-try for any meat lover.

Dresden, Germany
I had never heard of Dresden prior to my friend inviting me over to meet him. If a storybook could be brought back to life, it would be exactly like how Christmas Markets in Dresden can be. Dresden host’s Germany’s oldest Christmas market where the costumed shopkeepers, live performances, shops designed like German farmhouses and so much of beer make everything unbelievable. Guys, it just can’t get better, you have to experience these Christmas markets to appreciate the efforts taken by the organizers. And for those traveling to Germany for the first time, carry coins of different denominations to pay for entrance or use public bathrooms.

Budapest, Hungary
I often get asked which would be one of my top few favorite cities in the world and without any hesitance I can say it is Budapest. Till date, my mouth waters thinking about eating Langos of different kinds at different Christmas markets in Budapest and those delicious chimney cones filled with chocolate cream right at the St Stephen’s square. Budapest is a wonderland for Christmas markets and a paradise for those. My favorite Christmas market was St Stephens market square as it had a wide variety of food and drinks and an amazing vibe. There is a massive Christmas Market near Heros square which is very lively and fun with a huge skating rink.

Prague, Czech Republic
Praha has a vibrant vibe and what is even more amazing when you celebrate Christmas with thousands of people from around the globe. Old town square at Praha has a packed Christmas market, which has live concerts, a huge Christmas tree and of course, lots of chimney cake. Praha is a paradise for beer lovers and a wonderland for those believe in fairy tales. The Christmas market of old town goes on until the 31st December. We also celebrated New Year’s eve at Letna park, so those who love fireworks and like to burst as well, buy some in advance. So my hungry travelers, think no more and get ready to celebrate new years in Prague! You will not regret it.

Lisbon, Portugal
Lisboa! You beautiful crazy city. I was surprised to see how joyous the whole city is during Christmas break and how amazing are the Christmas markets. Though Christmas markets are not as big as other places it still caters to all those lovers who want to experience something different. You can hot wines and ciders all throughout the city and Pastel de Nata in every second shop in the city. We went to some of the Christmas markets and our favorite was Wonderland Lisboa.
